There isn't a lot to do with your lawn over the winter. Fertilize it first thing in the spring, and it should have been fertilized last fall. Your grass will turn brown and die, and regrow in the spring. Fertilizer helps this go smoother. Scotts Turf Feed is a good brand.

My family lives in Wyoming, although they don't need it at the moment due to snow, They water their lawn through most of the winter.
It is also good to furtilize in the fall to help strengthen the roots.

Why would it dry. Winters are wetter then summers and no baking sun to dry it out.

what zone...if temperate, spread a lower nitrogen fertilizer in the fall and reseed....then in spring aerate and fertilize heavily...water, water, water
