A black body can be any material. The only stipulation is that its emissivity is 1, i.e., that it be "black".

the idea behind a 'black body' is that it is a perfect emitter and a perfect absorber since black things radiate and absorb radiation at greater rates. Stars are said to be black bodies (although this is not necessarily true).
