An aunt of mine (my father's sister) actually said this in front of the child at a family event. The child has red hair, and my aunt doesn't like it. Everyone just ignored what she said, but should they have come to the girl's defense?

aww that is so mean! yeah, i definitely think they should have come to her defense! come on, a mother should think he child is beautiful no matter how ugly he or she may be. it's mean that the mother says that, it's not the poor girl's fault that she was born with red hair!! i feel so bad! next time someone should tell the mother how to treat a child. that really could lower the poor girl's self esteem & she will always feel bad about her red hair (which is uniques and beautiful) just because of her stupid mother.

I hope you're not just joking, because my mother insulted my looks when I was young and it still hurts. Yes, someone should have come her defense. What kind of mother says that about her own child? Her daughter won't forget that.

yeah, I can only wonder at someone like that. I know that I am pretty out spoken and would of said something to her either right then or out in the hall, very close to her face and maybe just maybe holding on to her arm just a little too hard. But that's just me.

that's horrible. what is wrong with your aunt?!
now the poor girl is going to have major self esteem issues. not to mention the fact that she has red hair because of her parents - does your aunt understand about dna & genetics? some people seriously shouldn't be parents.

I think thats disgusting and mean. I think that was very irresponsible of the family to ignore that comment. That poor child will have to deal with that for the rest of her life. Very Mean!!!

At a certain age in life people tend to speak what's on their mind and don't really care who they hurt or they don't realize that they are hurting others especially if they are up in their years.
Yes somebody should of come to the child's defense.

i would think she is not a good parent at all..yes someone should have said something but people are cowards..tell the child next time you see her, and every time after that you believe she is beautiful..even if you don't..tell her anyway..every person is beautiful in one way or another..it doesn't have to be about personal beauty..

Don't ever let her get away with it ever again!
That child will grow up to be abused. How sad!
All children are lovely - especially the redheads!

Ok, you know your aunt is abusive, so I suggest you do what you can for your poor cousin. Tell her she is getting prettier and prettier every time you see her. Make her feel good about herself because you know she needs it. I mean that's all you can do, right?
