I really want to be a social worker, but with pay that low I probablly would spend a good portion of my life just trying to survive and pay off college loans. Once I have kids, I`ll barely be able to support the family and I don`t want to be dependant on my husband (when I get married.) Do you have any advice?

If you want to make money as a social worker, you'll need to get a masters degree and 3000 hours of supervised training in order to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. With that title, you can do private psychotherapy. Otherwise, being a social worker is about the lowest-paying profession there is.

I don't know what state you live in,but in Ca.. the pay isn't bad at all. They do have large caseloads in some areas.. If you are worried about making money.. become an engineer. Chemical, Electrical etc.. You'd make more money as a biochemist too..

Your options are pretty simple.

Learn to live off what a social worker makes, or do something else.
