1. they differ physically not chemically. A compound has a fixed ratio and at similar temp and pressure the compound will act the same way. Since one is a solid and one is a gas/maybe liquid, obviously they are in different states.

2. Sodium is an explosive metal. Chlorine is a poisonous gas. Together they made my dinner taste better.

1) No, they are the same no matter where the sample is taken. Pure water is always H2O no matter what the source.

2) The properties of a compound can be completely different from the properties of the elements which make up that compound. When elements join to form compounds they give up their old properties and take on new ones.
