The best way is to practice with water to see where you want to place them.
Start with dry hair (your hair should be dry and a day old from shampooing).
If you want chunks that are symetrical on both sides just pull up equal parts on each side of your part and wet them down with just water. Enough to dampen them.
Just kind of look in the mirror and judge them. Really you should only be doing around 5 so just space them out properly. When you're done just check it out to see if its right and use the wet pieces as your guide.
Just dry them before you place the color.
Its really simple, you just have to judge by eye really.
