You have to be diagnosed by a medical professional as being "mentally unstable". Being depressed probably counts, but unless you were diagnosed by someone then it's fine. Even then, your prognosis has to be current, if reversed you should be fine.

It is extremely dangerous to suddenly stop taking zoloft or paxil. You must talk to the doctor who prescribed the medication and your pharmacist to find out how to wean yourself off of it. Half-life refers to the amount of time it takes half a drug to clear your body. The levels drop each day by half. Zoloft's half-life is one day, so it would take about one week to wean off 100mgs. Even being on the medication for a few days can cause withdrawl symptoms if you suddenly stop taking it, like nausea, fatigue, dizziness, headaches, agitation, anxiety, an increase in vivid dreams, hallucinations and abdominal cramps. In extreme situations, it can cause a sudden drop in your levels, causing you to feel suicidal and can cause "brain zaps." Basically, it is dangerous to stop ANY medication without consulting with your doctor. Depending on your personal situation, your doctor may counsel you to stay on it for your own safety.

No, it's not true. In order to be prevented from buying a gun you would have to be ruled mentally incompetent by a judge. Depression doesn't come anywhere near that.

Come on down to friendly Florida, where even the criminals can buy guns!
They dont care if you were on anti-depressants. They only care if you have been to jail before. What are you looking to get?

I didn't know they checked your medical history before you bought a gun. If you've been declared insane or have a felony sure, but having took an anti-depressant in the past I don't think that should matter.

Gun control laws are regulated by the states. You need to check within your State to find out.

If they do then challenge them as long as it is for hunting or self protection. Oh yes and you have not shot anyone nor intend to or we may all go to Georgia. If you have a problem then it would seem to be more dangerous to not take your medication if you need it that is.

They don't check what prescriptions you ever been on. Zoloft can be prescribed for anxiety attacks among other things. So, I would definitely say no, unless it is a state law. I think gun laws are federal laws though.
