The trick with these is the order of operations. If there are no parentheses, then the order is:

1. sign (positive or negative)
2. exponents & roots
3. multiply/divide
4. add/subtract

So for the first one:

2*3 + 4 * 3^2 =
2*3 + 4*9 =
6 + 36 =
42

Second:

5 - 3 * (-2) =
5 - (-6) =
11

Third:

(10 + 5 ) / 5 + (-3)^2 =
(10 + 5) / 5 + (9) =
15/5 - 9 =
3 + 9 =
12

Fourth:

10 + 5/5 + 3^2 =
10 + 5/5 + 9 =
10 + 1 + 9 =
20

*Solve each problem with PEMDAS > ( ), exponents, multiplication, division, addition & subtraction...

1. 2 * 3 + 4 * 3^2

2 * 3 + 4 * (3)(3)
2 * 3 + 4 * 9
6 + 36
= 42

2. 5 - 3 * (-2)

5 - (-6)
5 + 6
= 11

3. (10 + 5) / 5 + (-3)^2

(10 + 5) / 5 + (-3)(-3)
(10 + 5) / 5 + 9
15 / 5 + 9
3 + 9
= 12

4. 10 + 5 / 5 + 3^2

10 + 5 / 5 + (3)(3)
10 + 5 / 5 + 9
10 + 1 + 9
11 + 9
