I'm planning an Oscar party to celebrate and watch the Oscars. Do you think that's silly? I was going to just have my immediate family because I felt to silly to invite other people. What do you think? And if you're having one too, what kinds of things are you doing or ideas would you be willing to share?

No, it's a great idea! I'm a big movie buff and am doing a party also. Feel free to borrow any of my ideas if you like :)

I make the invitations look like the envelopes used to announce the winners *of course, mine say. The Nominees for being invited to my Oscar Party are.....*. I also *I'm serious here :)*. Get a long piece of red carpet that I have leading up to the front door. When the first guest arrives, I take their pix w/ a throw away camera *ala paparazzi* and I give them a camera so they can take pix of the others as they arrive.

For food, I go w/ good ole popcorn, soda, candy and nachos. I also have the guests guess on the winners of the big awards *film, director, actor.actress and best supporting actor and actress* and the winner gets a small trophy...luckily I've done this before and haven't had any tie scores yet. Finally, I play Movie Bingo *The M&M candys had this game last year*. Everyone gets a Bingo like card, but instead of letters, you get to mark the card like this:

Whenever someone thanks God for their win
If someone trips on the podium on the way up on stage
If someone actually finishes their speech before the music starts
If someone forgets to thank their cast members if they win
you get the idea. It's a lot of fun. Whoever fills their card first gets a $25 gift certifiate to our local theatre.

Good luck with your party!

I just play with my Oscar all night.

But a party sounds fun...have people dress formally. Offer a statue for best dressed. Cake with an oscar decor. Hand out a vote tab and prize for each category that people win, big prize for best total winners.

I have 1 every year. We basically have a pool and everyone has to choose who they think is going to win. After the show, the person with the most correct gets money.
