This weakens the reverence of government in general, even if they aren't the most enlightening bunch of leaders, they are still our elected leaders.
I think all jokes about politicians should be outlawed. Criticisms, yes, but the Daily Show, Colbert Report, SNL, just turn the whole country into one big Jerry Springer episode.

of course I like living in a democratic society, but this is going too far. Constant mocking and sarcasm is NOT what the founding fathers had in mind. Like I said, criticism is fine, but mocking weakens government. There is plenty of opportunity for comedy in a 100 other areas.

It's called the First Amendment.
Man, you're sounding very un-American.
Perhaps China, Cuba, or Venezuela would be more in line with your viewpoints?

Not really, if people pay attention to what is being said, there is a message.
In a democratic society the government is by the people for the people. When it stops working as it has in the United States, the people must change it. Perhaps a parliamentary system would work better???
Politicians should pay attention to shows like these as it generally reflects the mood of the people and the government must carry out the wishes of the people.

You like living in a democratic society but criticizing politicians in the media is going too far? I just want to make sure I got the gist of your post.......
Apparently the purpose of a FREE society is lost on you.
If you enjoy living in a free society, then you have to enjoy ALL the benefits that go along with it. Freedom of Speech and expression would be 2 of those bennies.
Be glad that you reside in a nation where our elected officials can be openly criticized. Firstly because they need to be held publicly accountable. They are employed by The American people, we all pay their salaries, even the media, after all Anderson Cooper and Kaitie Couric pay taxes, quite a lot of them based on their incomes......
Secondly, because if we start censoring the news, and criticism of our elected officials, you no longer have a free society in any form.
The American people have a right to know what goes on with our government, they are accountable to us, the citizens of The United States. If our elected officials weren't such donkeys some/much of the time, there would be nothing bad to report. Perhaps they should do a better job, then they wouldn't court such harsh criticism, in the media.
The media doesn't make the polititions look like a three ring circus, the polititions themselves do. Bribery, sex scandals, adultery, etc.....Shall I go on?
The Daily Show is one of the best satrical shows on T.V. Jon Stewart and his writers, including Steven Colbert, are brilliant.

It is called freedom of speech..If you don't like what you hear you can exercise another freedom. The freedom to ignore... I think maybe sometime the comedians tend to milk, the so called, funny stuff a little to much. Usually they use that stuff because they probably are not creative enough to find something else to poke fun at. It is within the American fabric to poke fun at ourselves and I believe that people such as John Kerry who can't keep from putting his foot in his mouth should be spotlighted, however I also believe that sincere honest to goodness hard working legislators who can work honorably without having to have their mug on the news, are people who should be treated with respect.. There are some good ones but most of them are out of sight...

Because in the Constitution, the Media (a.k.a. the Press) have a right to state their opinion, even if it contradicts your own. (a.k.a. the Consumers):
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

It would violate our constitution, deprive us of essential liberties, and go against everything our founding fathers fought for.
Satire is a very important tool in any democracy. When someone can't make a joke or take a jab at an elected official, then things start getting scary.

Your question has various factors to it; the denial of global warming contained in the face of the overpowering medical evidence has been orchestrated by technique of grasping human beings and corporations who've money at stake. they don't care about even if we are polluting our planet to the point that the grandchildren of this technology will conflict through. They care about money for them, NOW. The dance that has been executed by technique of petroleum organizations to discredit the wide quantity of medical documents is ludicrous. that is, in reality, a funny tale. the human beings of the international were offered an untruthful bill of goods; that global warming would not exist. promoting and marketing has been used, no longer technology, no longer documents, no longer the sparkling reviews of the most respected scientists contained in the international. So if the final public of the human beings of the U.S. are so uneducated, uninformed, and lazy about learning this information, and fall for the promoting of massive oil and the money in the back of it, they are incorrect. Politicians have get entry to to the most sensible scientists, the most annoying learn, the clearest evidence. i imagine there are diligent politicians and lazy corrupt ones. i'm hoping that our elected representatives are operating for the most acceptable pastimes of the human beings of the U.S. notwithstanding that's only a wish. As we talked about with George Bush, at the same time as the needs of massive agency conflict with what's powerful for the final populations, it isn't particular that the human beings will be considered first.
