They don't sound like Nirvana....but Nirvana sounds like The Pixies. Nirvana was what popularized that sound....bands like Husker Du, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, and the Minute Men made it.
Kurt Cobain said Smells Like Teen Spirit was his attempt at immitating the Pixies. He said he always felt like he should have been in a Pixies tribute band. Nirvana wasn't that far away from being that. Just with original songs.

also, seek out the early stuff by a Welsh metal band called Budgie - big influences on Nirvana, who often did a cover of the Budgie track "Nude Disintergrating Parachutist Woman" live

failure, they were a great alt. rock band from the 90's, their best cd was fantastic planet. also year of the rabbit which was formed by the singer of that band.
nirvana did not sound like the pixies, what a load of b.s.
