Any sport is not only about the offence, defence wins. You have to work on both offence and defence.
And conditioning, the increase in competition from jr. high to high school is huge. When someone still has legs at the end of the game when everyone else is dying out there, it doesn't go unnoticed by coaches.
Work on your ball handling, walking to and from school while dribbling a ball, or on your lunch hour. Just spending time with the ball in your hands so you are comfortable with it. I have heard that dribbling on rocks can increase your reaction to wierd bounces, which will also help with recieving passes. Just make sure you are using an old ball that can take a bit of a beating when using it on the rocks.
Lastly, give it everything and have a good attitude. If there is one person on the court who has heart and one person who has a bad attitude, the coach will more then likely pick the person who has heart because it increases team moral, which is all that pulls a team through a bad stint sometimes

Good luck and have fun!.

Get to good camps this summer. Get private training if that is possible. A good coach who works with you directly can guide you toward the particular things you need to work on.
Make sure that your shooting practice is practicing with proper form. Shoot one-handed and hold your follow through up until the ball hits the basket.

more to basketball than shooting the ball...... you need to practice making good hard passes...not flinging the ball...and bounce passes...you need to learn defensive plays and how to play defense....practice taking the ball down the court through traffic...how to protect the ball....while keeping your head up....it is important to keep your head up so you can see who is where .....practice stealing the ball without drawing a foul...how to run in front of someone facing them with arms out.... without touching them and getting your feet tangled together...also practice looking straight ahead but seeing what is going on beside you without appearing to do so and passing the ball to another..............

get some of your buddies or mom and dad to help you with this...and you can find the different types of plays that is used in high school on the net.........

they look for players who are aggressive and make smart plays and can handle the ball.......no ball hogs.....being able to look to who is in the best position to make the shot and passing it to them is a good thing.............

best of luck.....I hope this helps......

you can do anything if you set your mind to it. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!
