Buy a software that can "truly" erase any personal information or files. You can find it at any retail store.

Well go to START, then to ALL PROGRAMS, then click on PC HELP & TOOLS. From here you can do a hard recovery to erase all data and programs from your computer if you want. If you do not have anything private on it like phone numbers or credit card numbers, then just give it to him.

Also with the computer at his house, boot it up to let him know that it works NOW. And if goes out in a week then that is his problem. It shouldn't, but he may get on the internet and get a virus that crashes his system and try to blame you.

Also for the easy 10, send me the model number and I will tell you the upgrades your friend can buy. I can give him this info if he is your good buddy and not a casual acquaintence.

Clear history. But if he is a pro then he will be able to go through what you did.

Even after formatting the hard drive i would be able to get back some of the important files that are in the motherboard from old OS

If i was doing that i would clear all of my Registry.

Look on google "how to clear personal files" or "clear registry"

I'd format the hard drive and reinstall the OS from the CD. Update the OS with all the latest security patches.
