The rate of change would be the just be slope of the line connecting these points.
(1983, 57.7) and
(1997, 52.8)
so do
(57.7 - 52.8) / (1983 - 1997) =
4.7/(-14) ~= -0.3357142
You're probably in what they now call "pre calculus"
This is just college algebra taught to sufficent standards that you'll be ready for calculus when you get out, and introducing some words and ideas from calculus, such as rate of change for slope.
I see a few people have told you the rate of change is 4.7% Someone's even giving a thumbs up to those who say 4.7% and a thumbs down to those who say you have to divide by the change in time.
4.7% what it would be if your time interval was one year. But since your time interval is 14 years you have to divide by 14. Remenber, yo'ure treating this as the slope of a line, where your independant variable is changing by 14 and your dependant variable is changing by -4.7
Slope or rate of change = (change in dependant variable) divided by (change in independant varialbe)
It gets confusing when people give different answers, when you know in math there can be only one right answer. This is why you need to understand your math so that you can recognise which answers are right and which are wrong, and eventually be able to figure out the right answers for yourself.

1) Let x be the percentage of students graduating with 5 or fewer years of study

2) x decreases from 57.5 to 52.8 in 15 years

3) x decreases by 4.7% / 15 years = 0.313333333333 % / year

To find rate of change

(57.5-52.8/52.8)=8.9% (percent of change, not percent from 100)

1997-1983=14 years

8.9%/14 years = 0.64% per year

Wow, doesn't anybody work with percentile anymore?

You would say that in 14 years (1997-1983), the percent changed 4.7% (57.2-52.8). Therefore, on average it changed .335% (4.7/14) every year. That is the rate of change.

you get the points (1983,57.5) and (1997,52.8).

for every 1997-1983 = 14 years, the percentage drops 57.5-52.8 = 4.7 points.
so the rate of change is 4.7 points every 14 years = 4.7/14 = .336 points / year

Subtract 52.8 from 57.5 = 4.7
In math you have to learn what to omit in the question. A lot of what it says has nothing to do with figuring out the problem.

Louisa, all people feels issues a splash in a different way, yet I even have considered countless posts on right here from sixteen 12 months olds experiencing a similar emotions which you're having. that's a stable sign that interpreting your individual placed up nervous you, it shows which you fairly fairly do decide to end the cycle of thoughts which you're dealing with. My suitable suggestion to you is this - discover somebody which you have faith (do no longer today brush off chatting along with your mom and dad, they LOVE you and that i assure they'll decide that may well be useful you get "widespread", regardless of how lots it could embarrass you to communicate to them) and tell them what you're feeling. basically speaking it out with somebody will take a number of the load off and make it less difficult to get to the subsequent step, that's to concentration your capability on something which you appreciate, or are stable at, or maybe something which you prefer you have been stable at. do no longer make it something enormous and complicated to end spectacular away nevertheless, you do no longer decide to finally finally end up pissed off and experience such as you're failing. i'm no longer partial to medicine interior the least, so i'm unlikely to assert which you need to bypass see a physician except you attempt this attitude and discover that for the period of spite of help out of your associates and family and a concentration on something relaxing would not help. At that factor you're able to ought to settle for that there is a chemical imbalance on your gadget that needs to be adjusted to allow you in looking a good keel. heavily nevertheless, there are particularly some others available along with your emotional subject concerns, do no longer experience on my own and don't lose wish! you're so youthful and characteristic lots existence earlier than you, get previous this and luxuriate in that existence!

I think you make both percents into fractions and then subtract them. Then make that # a percent.

That's the way I would do it, but i'm not positive
