depends on if it is manual or automatic but first things first, drain fluid, remove drive shaft, then undo transmission mount on the rear crossmember, undo any elctrical connectors, remove any cooling lines(if automatic) undo shifter linkage, or remove shifter, remove dust cover and remove torque convertor bolts(again if automatic, if manual remove cltuh slave cylinder, then undo all the bellhousing bolts and slide trans back and lower using a trans jack.

go to the auto parts store and buy a Chilton's or Haynes manual

please state what trans you have -4speed man (witch is what my 1983 has) -5speed man or 4speed auto.
