For some reason my PC stopped functioning as it would not turn on at all...only on some occassions. Now it does not power up at all, the power supply makes a buzzing noise when I plug it in, but doesn't power up the computer. I just purchased a Dynex power supply and connected all wires to the CD ROM, Floppy, Motherboard, etc..........................and it still does not power up. What can possibly be wrong with it? I appreciate your feedback.

First thing to do it to narrow down the problem. With the new power supply (ps) hook up the ps to the motherboard just those two things, and make sure the power switch from your case it hooked up to your motherboard (or simpily touch the power switch connectors on the motherboard with a screw driver).
The important thing is to make sure all the cables are plugged in correctly, especially your cpu fan.
If you can figure it out after that, your motherboard might be bad. If you're not comfortable doing this pay the $100 (or so) and get it fixed at a local computer shop.

The best way to troubleshoot this is to do the following:
1. Disconnect everything except the motherboard.
2. turn on the system.
3. see if the motherboard is working. (you should see it booting on the screen.)
4. If the MB is ok then plug in each device (one at a time).
5. If MB is not working remove all other cards except for the monitor card and try again.
6. If MB does not work yet move the monitor card to a differant slot and try again.
7. If MB still is not working get a new MB.
Hope this helps.

Most likely it is the motherboard that is bad. If it were the CPU overheating, you would at least bootup for a few seconds before it would shut down. If it was harddrives, you would still get DOS.
So, my guess is the motherboard. Hope you get it working soon.
I pasted a link to a story of a computer with the same problems you are facing. The technician said it was the motherboard too.

Could be faulty hard drive or virus. Take your comp to a computer shop and let them find the source of the trouble. If your power supply is making strange sounds its more like the power supply has gone bung. make sure your power supply is large enough for your comp average 400 to 500 watt twin fan.Hope this is of some help.

Connect the power supply to just the mainboard. On the mainboard you should only have the processor, processor fan, and RAM installed. If you have a Video Adapter, remove it. See if the computer powers on.
If you still have a problem you may need to replace the mainboard.
Also make sure the power supply is set to 110Volts if a red slide switch is included on the back of it.

Occasionally mine will do that. the start button on the computer(the one that powers it up may be missing the contact inside. Pull off the cover and try the button on the inside.

First thing that comes to mind:
You should have gotten a Mac!
I would try taking it in to a computer repair shop. They are usually great at working with these sort of problems. Good luck with everything!

if you installed the correct power supply, and are still having trouble,it could as well be the motherboard.
