Basically, I haven't worked recently (long story, forced to quit by Big Corp. due to work injuries, no interest in legal issues). Anyhow, I have since recovered (as best as possible in my own way with help & support of family/husband & without doctors, pt, etc.). Now I am ready to get back to work! Here's where I need Help, please. What do I say about why I quit good fast-track corp job so long ago (will worker's comp record come up in background check?) & haven't worked at a "real job" in 6 yrs, other exp. worked part-time & went to school before, also former co-founder of closed company? I want to work at heart & soul non-profit (lower pay ok) arts related orgs (been volunteering off and on for the past few years at similar orgs in other cities two hours away, commuted to finish my BA degree while caring for my uncle who had cancer, he passed away before I graduated). Also, how do I state volunteer experience on resume & especially on application (usually no room for this info)?

Employment applications usually want you to fill in what you did during your periods of unemployment. You can put the places where you volunteered, and your part-time jobs down there--if there is not another space specifically for volunteer positions, etc.

Even if these positions were not related to the position you are seeking, they will see that you did something of value with your time over the last six years.

There is always a place to put down schools/education--so you can get in the classes you took while not working.

I wish you well--six years is not really a long time--particularly when it was well-used, and you were caring for an ill relative. You can explain these things during your interviews, if you don't find appropriate space on the applications.

You have already started your resume tell them you are getting back into the work force you have for family reasons not worked for some years your past experience includes this and that and your qualifications to do whatever. There is no need to touch on all details of your past history privacy legislation prevents anyone from finding out all your past . You have whenever possible helped this and that project in a volunteer position. Enough said any Employee will be able to access your ability from what you say at an intergview. A just getting back into the work force usually leads to an employee who is grateful and is reliant and sticks so dont worry go for it.

Okay, calm down please. One piece of this puzzle at a time. First, go to a bookstore and get "Resumes For Dummies". It covers practically any situation regarding interview techniques, form letters, and resumes that you have. Workers Comp. will come up in the background check, but you know whether or not your drew it legitamitely...don't worry about it. Tell them, in a short, concise, way why you quit the job that has a complicated explanation. For example: " I had many deep issues going on at that time in my life, but my life is easier and better now. I'm a good worker, no job-hopper, and would love to prove that if you'll hire me and allow me to show you." Just list the jobs as the employment form requires--don't worry about what KIND it was. If the potential employer is concerned they will ask about it. Take your breath and don't worry. Take plenty of paper with you when you fill out your employment page AND a typed resume. Indicate with a * what question's answer(s) you're extending. Good luck! You'll find the right job for you...don't be nervous!

showing up as in case you have already got the activity could be a extensive mistake. no longer showing up prepares says on your ability business business enterprise which you're no longer likely fascinated or extreme approximately them. It says you do no longer take the interview heavily. Your buddy should not be doing the interview or making the hiring determination. Take it heavily. dress up and are available arranged. sturdy success!

There is no reason why you cannot list volunteer activities under work experience. You can even list them as a reference.
