I was listening to a radio the other day, and they were talking about how it was such a great advancement, etc. However, I just don't get it. I can see the first black NFL coach as a door opener, or the first black player in the super bowl as a door opener, but the first time two black coaches play against each other? I consider the super bowl to be about the players in the first place, and the fact that both coaches are black seems arbitrary. What importance does it hold? It just means their team was good--it has nothing to do with them being with held from coaching positions, so why is it so great? I don't understand all of the excitement...

Actually, i really don't pay attention to sports. i understand that the jobs weren't open in the past to them, which was not fair, and i also understand that coaches are important to the team, but i still don't get it. them being able to be coaches is awesome...them being in the super bowl just means they are good at their job, and have good players. basically, i heard somebody on the radio talking about how wonderful and groundbreaking it was, yet for the coaches to be good, there really didn't need to be any groundbreaking...i guess i just think that the groundbreaking occurred when a black person was able to be a head coach for the first time, and not now....lol, i guess what i really want is people's opinions on the subject

your right, 100%. football isnt about certain races being here and there. football is about the game. being good at what you do. both of the coaches prove they should be in the super bowl by making it this far by skill, talent, effort and will. not by color. the only achievement is self achievement of getting this far. not publicity of media rights about this and that.

It is not earth shattering unless you are aware that coaching and other top level positions in sports tend not to be open to blacks. The owners in sports were once reluctant to allow blacks to even play. Once that barrier was broken, blacks rapidly filled the ranks of most professional sports. But, as well as they have done on the field, they have been largely locked out by their own experience of a glass ceiling as far as advancement into coaching and upper level management. Now there are some coaches, and the idea that they are not "smart enough," or some such logic, is being broken down with the success of some. In the coming Super Bowl not one, but both coaches are blacks, having directed their teams to the highest level, guaranteeing one will win the biggest game, further proof that they are as capable as any other. Thus the hoopla.

The coaches certainly are a big part of winning in football. There are so many things that have to take place to get that far in the playoffs. I look up to any coach that has been able to be in a Superbowl, no matter whether he wins or loses. These are two great football coaches in my opinion. Have a great evening.

WooHoo...Good for them. I am sooo glad the media is making this such a big story. I mean after all the years blacks worked to become equals and now they are being treated differently just because they are black? Wait...isn't that what they fought against? I'm confused... Equal is Equal is Equal either be it or shutup...-> to ALL races.

it's just a statement that this Superbowl will be in history and one of the well known ones because there will be 2 black coaches in the Superbowl and that i believe is a beautiful accomplishment. Also for the team who wins

You answer your own question and don't realize it? It's never happened in the history of the NFL, that's why! There wasn't even any Black Head Coaches at all 10 years ago! That's why we're excited! We thought all the racism was changing in America! But don't worry, you've proved us wrong!

You dont think the coach makes a difference for on field performance of a team? You must not watch sports very often, or pay much attention.

A lot of people (and the media especially) seem to like to hear about "firsts" of anything.
