For instance on "American Chopper", maybe Paul is having trouble getting the shape of that motorcycle fender just right. So then his dad comes up and starts bawling that the bike "gotta be ready" for the big show coming up.

The worst example in the uK is "time team"where a bunch of archaeologists have to excavate a site but they are given an unfeasibly short time to do it- 2 days or something. And they end up running about in an attempt to make the show more "exciting:".

Does anyone actually LIKE these type of "deadlines" in shows? .. aren't they just a little bit boring?

you are so right!that's the reason I record and fast forward some of the decorating shows I might have an interest in..also I hate it when they have to argue and fight during taping.I have stopped watching those programs.I watch to learn something ,not be subjected to their insults of each other.........why add more stress to my viewing experience....yup change tha channel.........

No, it builds suspense. Without a deadline, THEN it would be boring, because there would not be any conflict. They'd just be doing whatever, and not really worrying about anything.

Bah, I didn't explain that very well. But trust me man, show me something with no time limit (where it would be approprate to have one), and I'll show you something that is getting canceled mid-season, or going straight to video (not that it'd get picked up in the first place).

How boring is watching some hairy bloke from Devon dig up a bit of pottery. They've got to try and make it a little interesting.

Give them a break, stop judging people! Otherwise your never going to connect with anyone and your going to spend all your time asking pointless questions to faceless people on the internet instead of going out there into the world and connecting with people.
