I'm 13 and I have a MySpace. I wouldn't let your daughter have a MySpace, though. I just have one because I am hooked on it and stuff. It isn't safe, though, but I also think you should trust your daughter a little more with the computer. You know you can check the history, don't you? Go to the History icon up on the toolbar, and if you don't have it, go to "Tools" and look for the "History" thing. You can check where your daughter has been. That is what my parents have been doing ever since we were little.

This is coming from a teenage point of view. I'm in ninth grade and I'd say probably 90-95% of people at my school have a myspace. I, however don't. It is true that it's a good way to stay in contact with people, but it's not always safe. If you do allow her to get one, you should be sure you have access to it. She might not like that, but it's to keep her safe. I know I'm always yelling at my older cousins because they have myspace accounts set to private so that only people on their friends list can see them but, they put anyone that requests to be their friend onto their friends list even if they don't know them. I don't know your daughter and it's all about trust and responsibility. She has to know the dangers and people arent always who they say they are. If she understands this then, i guess it won't be too bad but, if not, you may want to get her password so that you can check it now and again. May I also reccomend a piczo site. It's your own website and you can get a guestbook for others to sign. You can make it so that you have to give someone a special password in order to view your site. Again, I don't believe that any of these sites are perfectly safe, but just remind your daughter that she has to be smart and make wise decisions.

Yes and probably half of her school as well. I love myspace in that it helps me know exactly whats going on with her and her friends because its a lot more than what she tells me. I wish more parents would monitor their children, though. It is clear they not only neglect monitoring but don't even read the SCREEN on the computer judging by some of these NAMES! Some kids have private accounts that only their friends can view and that is optimal. Just like everything else kids get into, parents need to SUPERVISE them and not just let them roam free because THEY CAN.

I think that she is too young and there are a lot of weirdos out there that can get info from your home page and maybe abduct kids. But here is another thought if you dont let her she will probably go on it anyway at a friends house. I would be scared to death to let a child this young get one. I think maybe she should wait until she is in high school and she is mature enough to handle any situations that may come up.

Kids don't need parent permission to have a MySpace account.
I think parents should not let the kids have a computer in their rooms because of that. Keep it out in the living room where you can keep an eye on what she's doing. :o) Good luck. :o)

Yes, my daughter is 13 and she has one. If you know and trust yours, there shouldn't be a problem. I look on over my daughter's shoulder now and again. Ask her what and who this and that is or this one and that one are. We have a pretty open relationship, and she trusts me, so she is responsive to my questions, and she understands what to do should some pervert like the first answerer here try to talk to her.(BTW, soup king - I would tie your balls to your tonsils just before I slit your throat, should you ever try it.) Just make sure it stays innocent. YOU have the upper hand as long as you stay on top of things.

I'm thirteen, and I have never had one. I was asked to do so a few times, but I don't really want to. If I want to talk to my friends, why should I stay cooped up in the computer-room and talk to them on Myspace instead of taking a walk to their house and getting some fresh air?

I'm 12 I have myspace and my parents don't know. It's not bad unless you go to forums or IM with random people I don't. My parents would flip if they knew I had myspace even if I wasn't chatting or anything. But they'd let me chat on anything else. I don't see why people think it's so bad.

Well, I'm middle school age. And almost everybody I know has a myspace account. Some, they did it without their parents knowing. Other parents don't know any better and let them do it. It's HORRIBLE! I agree with my mom about myspace.

Personally, I know a lot of middleschooler's that have a Myspace account, and don't want their parents finding out.
I would say as long as she has it on private, and only accepts people she knows, then it's okay. But, you're the parent and it's how you feel.
