shouldn't we at least ban them in the USA?

say or think what you want but, after every attack the owner always says it never acted like that before....

I can see that those of you that did answer are against a ban and for the most part say that any dog can be raised badly and attack because of it. I am not aware of any other dog that has such potential for doing so much damage to anything it attacks as a pit. this is a animal that when things go wrong they go way wrong. you know we don't allow large alligators as pets for this reason. there are those that would agrue that a gator can be raised as a good pet too. pits also have the ability to remove a limb from anyone as well. as for those of you calling me ignorant just the fact that you resort to name calling really gives the rest of a good view of your IQ

I must agree with you there. Nearly every day I read or hear about another vicious attack on a human by a pit bull. Sometimes helpless children, even babies. People who like pit bulls always place the blame on the owners but, I don't believe that for a minute. It's irresponsible breeding. They are mixed with other breeds and bred to be vicious. Yes, some owners want them that way but, a pit bull can and might turn on anyone, even their owners, at any time. They are not stable animals. For the safety of the public I say ban them.

Why not ban all dogs while you’re at it?!?!?!

I have a pit and she is the sweetest thing there is. Any kid can play all over her and she does not care. (MY 2yr niece thinks Lib is a seat) We have a yorkie/mix that beats my pit up and the bad dog that Lib (the pit) is lets her. Where I that I lived at there where 4 Pits running lose and NO ONE ever got bit or attacked I have and horse and they did not mess with him and there was a Catahoula dog and a Boston Terrier living there and they where never killed or injured by aggressive pits.

I did a speech on why we should not have bans on dogs. One reason is say if there was a ban on pit bulls the people who use them for fighting would just get another breed and fight them then those dogs will be ban and so on and so on. Pits where not breed to be people aggressive.

And for those people who say that it is the dog think about this ALL dogs can attack. If it has teeth it can bite.

ANY dog has the potential for being vicious and dangerous...it all depends on how they are raised and trained. Should we then ban ALL dogs because they can POTENTIALLY be dangerous. What about cats? People? They can be even for lethal than any dog...should we ban people too? You have obviously been brainwashed by the media. Dog bites and attacks happen on a daily basis, many by breeds such as chihuahuas, cocker spaniels, and doxies....those stories just never make it to the news the way pit bull attacks do. Who would want to watch a news story about a vicious poodle! But if you put a big dog that might look slightly mean or ugly...then eveyone is interested. Go out and educate yourself...pitbulls are not any more vicious or mean than any other dog. I just heard a report that the breeds that most often bite people are German Shepherds and Rottweilers, NOT pit bulls.

I don't think that pits should be banned. Any breed of canine has the potential to turn, and I believe that's it's in the way that they are raised that has to do with their behavior. My daughter has 2 pits and 1 pit mix. These are some of the most loving and affectionate dogs I have ever encountered. I admit, I was afraid at first when she got her first pit (because of all of the negative things I had always heard about the breed), but I got to know him and now I know he's a big baby.

I've heard of a rottweilers eating the foot off a baby. I've heard of an Airedale attacking and killing a 4 year old child it grew up with. I've heard of a chihuahua attacking a person walking by and doing permanent damage to their Achilles tendon. so don't say only pit bulls kill and maim because it isn't just them. you shouldn't strictly go by what you see, hear, or read through the media. people have wonderful pit bulls that grow up with families, Ive seen one that became mommy to a litter of orphaned kittens. I've seen one become mommy to a litter of orphaned bunnies. I've have seen pit bulls used as leader dogs, used in paws for a cause. I've seen pit bulls used in airports sniffing for drugs, bombs, food, etc. so in the same manner that you see the bad side of them there is also a good side and why would you take out the many many good to cull out the few bad?

i agree that petty behavior will not make any one's opinion sound intelligent, but how would you feel if some one were saying that you shouldn't be allowed to own your dog regardless of its breed?
in my opion more enthusiastic investigation of back yard breeders, and those who would train ANY DOG to fight or attack would be a little more feasable than destroying the entire breed. i think that ANY DOG who is agressive toward humans or other dogs to the point of posing a danger should be destoyed.
have you ever been attacked by a dog, a pittbull or any thing else? how about any one that you know?
not to mention that banning a breed of dog would be a massive violation of our right to privacy.
i have had dogs all of my life and been in contact with a couple hundred,i have never seen a pitt that was any thing but sweet, stubborn and goofy. it's people like you who are ignorant that cause the kind of hysteria that will lead to wide spread of breed specific laws.

I don't think so, but I do believe that the way some of the pit bulls are bred has something to do with some of them turning. A lot of people use them for fighting, or try to breed them to be agressive, if you breed two fighting dogs, or overly agressive dogs together, their puppies are likely to to have the same bad traits, ultimately I think that the problem with the breed is caused by the ignorance of people.

i have an akita. alot of people say that its how you raise a dog. thats only half true. my akita taught me its also the blood line.i socialized him more than i thought could be done. hes been through obedience and has his canine good citizen. do i trust him, with me yes definettly. othr people things, no. I know i did an excellent job with him but he is just like his father. so itsin the breeding and the raising. ive known others that arent like that. when they say its in there blood its there but not all lines have that in them.akitas and pits are alot alike. more agressive lines in bad hands are dangerous. aggresive lines in good hands have the potential to go either way. no they shouldnt be banned. i do agree there is a prob. they could pass a law that they all should be fixed minus reputable breeders. they dont breed aggressive lines. that would solve alot of probs. i would love to get one and i have a two year old.but cabt because of insurance and that is just assanine. but i would research the breeder very carefully. wopuld i ever get one from a shelter.no. i have friends that have them and they are great dogs

Why?? What has a pit bull done to you? What has a pit bull done that any other breed hasn't? If we start banning pit bulls why not move on to rottweilers and mastiffs? Aren't they just as dangerous? Or how about golden retrievers. I know that i have been attacked by a golden retriever who left scars on my face. I don't think i can trust another golden retriever EVER! Maybe i think that goldens should be banned!

I don't think banning any breed of dog will solve anything. The problem with pit bulls has nothing to do with their breed. It has EVERYTHING to do with some of the breeders of these dogs, and the owners who train them to be aggressive because they want to feel tough. If we ban pit bulls people are just going to breed them anyways, and find a way to get them. Just as so many people find a way to get illegal drugs. it will just become underground. And if we do ban pit bulls all those irrisponsible owners who can't get their hands on one will just move to another breed. Breed banning is rediculous and solves nothing. ANd if you have ever met a pit bull you would know how rediculous this really is. Pit bulls are naturally sweet and loving dogs. I would trust a pit bull over most other dog breeds out their.

I will put a link to this video on here, but i still don't think you will ACTUALLY appreciate it:

I don't agree with the people who say it is people training them to fight! I know of 2 episodes of a family owned the dog NEVER would train him to fight and the dog attacked. 1 child was my cousins 3 yr old & the other guy was a dog catcher in the next county, He went to his friends house with his small boy & the pitbull jumped over a neighbors fence and mauled the small boy. This pitbull had puppys back at her home????? Wasn't fighting pitbulls done alot back in the 1980's??? So many were caught I can't believe it is still popular.I never see busts in the paper like used to happen.I think that pitbulls available for sale should have a Pedigree available as public record.
