Should every Patriotic American be ready to serve this country in some way? yes whether military or civilian or public service

but the words military draft elicits negative feelings toward the service - it makes no sense to me why -

required military service as in draft - not necessary in my opinion
- able bodied being the key word in your question.

As long as volunteer military forces are sufficient, don't mess with what isn't broke.

If or when it becomes necessary to find another way to fill the ranks of our military - perhaps

a temporary draft - or a call to service - not a mandatory draft.

I believe that all men should have to sign up for the draft (which will probably never be enacted again) and that it should be voluntary for females. I definately believe that during times of war, if someone wants to go to college, that they can still serve their country instead of hiding behind a book and then once they have served their tour, then the government can send them through school, the number of years that they serve in the military - active duty- that is the total number of years that the government should pay for their college. In addition, EVERY male on welfare should have to be in the military to learn skills, grow up and become responsible. Why should we support some lazy bastard that is capable of working? Those that try to avoid the military via a bad knee, eye twitch, anal fissures, only son, only father, only boyfriend, or sexual orientation should be the first to go. Some with ailments can still sit their fat butts at a desk all day. Women should not be forced to join, but have the option to join and fight if they desire to. I cant stand lazy men, they should all have to go to the military. In addition, those teens that are gang bangers, thugs, domestic abusers, etc, send em right on in and let the government turn em into responsible human beings. The jerks that plan to enlist just to keep from being drafted should not be allowed to sit at a desk because they are too afraid to defend their country, if they enjoy their countries freedoms, then they should be more than honored to fight. That goes for the government officials kids too. They shouldnt be able to hide behind daddy's government cloak to keep you safe and warm at nite, go fight like Americans should.

Looks like alot of people are ready to suit up. The thing that puzzles me is that isn't freedom the right to choose whether to do something or not? I totally respect those who are willing to fight, but look at what this country has turned into. We send our jobs overseas, we have way too many living in poverty already, then we support a system that is bought by rich lobyists and politically correct cronies. The judicial system here is corrupt, and if your city council decides that your property is in the way of progress they can confiscate it for you. That I believe is not what our forefathers fought for, as a matter of fact it stands for everything they were against.

I honestly think it would put some discipline that is badly needed in this society and also it makes it better for future conflicts if a draft is ever reinstated. We can't defend America with a bunch of weaklings, we are a nation and this nation must be defended in case some country invades.

I dont believe so! I do believe that you learn alot being around and working with people from other parts of the country. I also belive that if you put someone where they dont want to be then you have created a weak link in the chain. Those weak links will get weeded out first and disposed of saving the strongest links to work together.

Absolutely. With a draft of only two years, individuals will learn a skill, become self disciplined, gain maturity and insight, broaden their scope of knowledge base by meeting other peers from all levels of society, and learn basic defense measures such as how to shoot a weapon and first aid. Also, a draft would create a military reserve force in every neighborhood of our country that could defend it in case of attack.
