celtic and rangers is a religious rivalry-unfinished fight from the reformation
Man U and Liverpool are 2 of the most successful clubs in English football history and thus hate each other from a footballing standoing rather than a historical motivation.

You got it wrong about Rangers and Celtic. We just abuse each other at the match but after the game we pop down the local and share a bottle of Buckies. All this religion is an urban myth started by Thatcherites to divide and rule the Scots but my twin has struck back with his support of England for the World Cup.Now that really has you confused.

There will always be bitterness between Liverpool and womanchester fans. Quite easily pointed out is that Liverpool is the most successful team in England - not man u.
Imagine a manc rat saying to his old man, "Gee dad man u is so amazing we are the best ever, aren't we?"
Dad, "Well son, not really Liverpool is actually the most decorated team in football history in England. They won 18 titles, 7 FA cups, 5 Champions League trophey and a host of other titles. So they are better."
Manc rat, "I don't understand so I will hate Liverpool forever!."
It's probably easier for man u parents to explain the birds and the bees to their kids than explain that Liverpool is still and will always be better than man u!

It is tribal, my sort hate your sort etc... football is a business now not a sport, once upon a time, friendly rivalry would be all that was behind this sort of thing but if one club outperforms the other, the supporters of the lesser club take it as a personal insult when the better club brags about it's achievements. There are better things to waste energy on than football.

30 miles apart, rabid fans, both have great traditions, both have wonderful players. What's not to hate? It is part of the beauty of the game.
