jd, the reason you picked Shaq was the most "dominate" (sic) of them all is because cause you never saw any of the other guys play.
And what the hell is Glen Rice doing in this question?? You think he should be in the discussion for the best laker ever?? I'd love to hear your argument on THAT one!! Ever hear of James Worthy? Does the name Elgin Baylor mean anything to you?
Yeah, you know your basketball...
Shaq is not a bad answer though, and he did dominate the finals as few players have, going against "Top 50" Rik Smits in 2000, an already over the hill Dikembe Mutumbo in 2001 and "future Hall of Famer" Todd MacCulloch (Todd WHO???) of the Nets in 2002. Rough competition there! They gave Shaq almost as much trouble as Ben Wallace did in the Eastern Conference finals last year LOL

Tough question. West won only one title and Wilt only two. Rice what happened to Elgin Baylor or James Worthy? Rice isn't even a hall of famer. Kareem had Magic to give him the ball. Shaq had Kobe for that. Don't tell me Shaq and Kareem could handle the ball. Kobe had to compete against who Tim Duncan. Duncan's good, but Magic had to go against Larry Bird. Not to mention Dr. J and MJ

Magic was such a leader on those team and could always be counted on to do the right thing and pass the ball. Shaq was so dominate in the middle. Kobe is just pure talent and needs a little more seasoning.
Kobe will probably be the greatest Laker of all in the end.

i purchase it for specific. I wasn't alive to work out West/Wilt and Magic/Kareem for the period of their situations, yet Kobe and Shaq made 4 finals appearances together, prevailing 3 of them. Shaq left having 4 greater years left in his best and Kobe grew to become into only moving into to his best. Had Kobe and Shaq no longer fought and remained teammates, they might have a minimum of 5 titles together. They unquestionably does no longer have lost to the Pistons in 2004.

Without Wilt, Shaq wouldn't bother with the NBA. Say wha, bro?
Because Wilt came along at the same time TV was expanding into homes, and Wilt carried the game of Basketball with him. Before TV, players salaries were limited to ticket sales and some peanuts from radio.
Basketball on black and white TV competed against roller derby, and would be in the same shape had not some really incredibly talented guys like Wilt shown up and dunked NBA into the new medium. All of them are talented men and play well, but they all stand on the shoulders of the guy who blazed the trail into everyone's livingroom at game time.

Shaq might have been the dominate one but No one could stop Kareem's Sky Hook. So I will say Kareem Abdul Jabbar as the Best Laker

jd...you forgot about Vlad Divac
And Tweety, for your information, Todd MacCulloch was one of the most dominant centers in NBA history. Don't you know ANYTHING?!? LOL
Seriously, Kobe and Glen Rice don't belong in this conversation. I would also eliminate Shaq (I agree, his competition was so bad in the woeful 90's).
I would also take out Wilt, solely based on the fact that he only played 4 years of his fabulous career with the Lakers.
That leaves Kareem, Jerry West, Magic, and Elgin Baylor (who you failed to include).
That is almost impossible to answer, because each one contributed to the Lakers success in their own way.
So, based on this, my final answer to the best Laker of all time is..........
MICHAEL JORDAN!!!!

While all the Lakers you mentioned were great players, only one, Magic Johnson, made every player on the court better. Not to mention, at 6' 9", Magic was able to, and did play, all 5 positions on the court, but Mr. Johnson did revolutionized the Point Guard's position.

Magic made the game fun to watch. He turned it into an art form and he is the only person I can think of that can legitimately play all five positions.
