Sometimes in the dark country, if is useful to leave the lights on. Parking lights too, if the car is parked in a dangerous place.

My lights turn off after an increment, so I can enter the house in a lighted path. I like it.

The problem may not be the starter, or the battery, it could be the charging system, meaning the alternator or components. I would suggest, charging the battery with a charger at your home, and driving down to the local auto parts store, where most will free of charge check your battery, looking for a sale of course, and they would tell you if that were the problem. I doubt it is the starter, most likely;y the alternator or the battery. Sid M

This is a convienance option (I have it on my 1978 Cadillac Deville) it allows people who park their car in a garage or underground car park to exit the vehicle and walk some distance with the safety of having their route illuminated. The delay time can be adjusted on some cars, the maximum I have seen is four minutes, this will not affect your battery

The lights are on for only a minute or so, which is a very tiny portion of the stored energy of a car battery. You're worrying over nothing.

If you referr to the ability to leave the pull/twist switch on, it is assumed that if you are able to drive the car, then you are able to determine that the lights are still on after each use, and thus turn them off.
If you are referring to the ability to designate an amount of time for the lights to remain on after removing the keys, it is a safety feature on some of the upper level vehicles.
It allows my wife to see the steps if I fail to turn the outside light on ahead of time for her.

The reason the lights continue to stay on is so that you can see where you're going in the dark. They just haven't been able to figure out how to only make them come on at night and not during the day.

It's for safety....My car has this feature, & I can disable it if I so desire.....Read your owners manual, & I bet you will be able to disable the auto lights on yours.
