okay, my requirements are that it must be in Japanese with subtitles, and available on youtube. I'm in my third year of Japanese, and I found that watching Ouran high school host club over the summer helped me with my listening comprehension in Japanese. So any animes that are cute and fun to watch like that, available on youtube, and not completely fantasy and nonsensical (I don't need to learn how to talk about shikon jewel shards) but somewhat interesting. I guess I'm looking for some good shoujo and such, I used to read a ton of manga, but it was expensive!

If you are looking for some fantasy genre anime, I would suggest Naruto, since I am fairly sure they have them on youtube, with subtitles. It is fairly immature, but some people find the comic action amusing.

I suggest Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm not sure if its what your looking for, but interestingly i did learn things about science from it & its my favorite anime. don't know if i'd label it as cute & fun thought.
Also try Bleach.

Check out "Death Note."
Speaking of manga, you can get used mangas with reasonable prices at "Book Off." If you are in Japan, you can go to public libraries and they have famous mangas available.
