I lived thru it, so I won't need web sites, tho whitehouse.gov has good biographical data on the Presidents.
Carter appeared unique in being overtly Christian, tho he nowadays has backed away from that stance. He had two major accomplishments and one major setback, all in foreign policy. Carter opposed the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (thanks a lot for noticing, Moslems) both with equipment to help the Majahedeen and by canceling U.S. participation in the Moscow 1980 olympics. Over 80 other nations joined this boycott, rendering the whole thing irrelevant. Carter also wrangled the treaty between Egypt and Israel, a treaty that stands even now (!) However, possibly as payback, directly as revenge for not handing over the Shah of Iran when he came to the U.S. for cancer treatments, the revolutionaries in Iran who ousted the Shah kidnapped the American embassy staff. They were released only when Ronald Reagan was sworn in (as Reagan had made clear that he would have used military force to crush them if they were not released.) Carter's defeat there was the scandalous rescue attempt with helicopters that crashed instead. One campaign worker said they'd have done better to have spent campaign funds on another helicopter. That failure sealed is defeat in November. Carter's opponent in 1976 was Gerald Ford, who was tainted with the Watergate Scandal by pardoning Richard Nixon the moment he was sworn in. No contest. Carter's opponents in 1980 were Ronald Reagan and former Republican, turned independent, John Anderson. No contest. Reagan took every state. It didn't even seem as if John Anderson split off enough votes to matter.

William Jefferson Clinton was elected in 1992 against Reagan's vice president, George Herbert Walker Bush (Sr.) During the 1988 election, George Bush said, "Read my lips, no new taxes." In a few years, new taxes. That tainted his whole tenure and Clinton won. Another help was the sudden popularity of Ross Perot, who DID split the conservative vote, facilitating Clinton's election. Clinton's accomplishments were a more balanced budge and health care legislation, tho the former can also be attributed to the 1994 "Republican revolution" led by Newt Gingrich. Clinton also tried to bring Israeli and Palestinian leaders together, but that effort failed where Carter's succeeded, leaving TV viewers with the image of two men standing at the door to the building, each insisting the other go in first: political Marx brothers. Clinton easily won re-election in 1996 despite Dole and Kemp: Dole was also Ford's running mate, so perhaps his presence is an unfortunate thing. Thus, while Carter excelled in foreign policy while his domestic policy was a mess (almost 18% inflation), Clinton excelled in domestic policy while his foreign policy was a mess (did nothing about the first bombing of the World Trade Center NOR about the bombing of the USS Cole. In fact, his one accomplishment was to convince Sudan to kick out Osama Bin Laden, who then went and hid in Afghanistan where we could no longer keep an eye on him. The rest is history.

I'm too young to remember much of Carter, but he was on the morning news for an interview this morning over a controversial book entitled, Palestine : Peace Not Apartheid'

Clinton was a diplomat and worked endlessly for peace in the Middle East. He was always traveling to the Middle East to negotiate and mediate conflicts in the region. He did a great job in the Middle East, and I knew that when the current president took over....all hell would break loose.

Unfortunately, Clinton did nothing when the genocide was taking place in Rwanda, which is something I believe he later apologized for. He also bombed Sudan over a supposed chemical weapon plant, which later turned out to be a plant producing dysentery medication.

I believe Clinton won Bush Sr. in the election.

Clearly Carter is the bravest and most moral president we've had since Abraham Lincoln.

Bill Clinton, although not scoring high in the morality department, had unmitigated success in spurring the economy, balancing the budget, and keeping the world at peace.

The major accomplishment of Bill Clinton was to teach all the young people of the U.S. that if DEGENERACY WAS ALRIGHT FOR THE PRESIDENT, IT WAS ALRIGHT FOR THEM.
