my mother has an older laptop that came with windows ME and a friend of hers had installed windows xp on it now there isnt even room on this laptop to run anything else besides say aol and thats it she cant do anything on this computer because it cant handle win xp.....I have searched online how to do this and have tried reformating it wont let me i have tried several different things and i cant seem to get it to work ive tried a site where it said to boot with the cd and at the prompt type fdisk well a prompt comes up saying a:/ but when i type fdisk it wont do anything and it comes up with the a:/ again does anyone have any suggestions how i can do this to fix this computer?? I have the original recovery cd for thsi computer which has windows ME on it

so i cant use the recovery cd i need an actual windows ME cd

after I get the windows me cd with the key what do i do then?

You would need the Windows ME installation CD with the product key.

you must have a bad start up disk make a new one if problem persist make sure that boot sequence in BIOS setup is set for A then C if default is C drive it wil not boot up on start up disk in A drive. If your using a CD for the bootable be sure it is listed before C drive also. whatever your booting off you want to be seen first.
If you have the original recovery doisk you should be able to put it in the CD drive reboot and have it come up. Again be sure the boot sequence is the cd drive then c drive

go to www.bootdisk.org and download a winme oem boot disk. its a self creating program that will create the disk on any computer(requires 1 floppy disk). use this disk to boot the laptop and fdisk then format the hard drive. then use the recovery cd to reload windows me.
