We are trying to find as much as we can but it is very difficult, especially when census records were not kept until recently. But, searching is fun, isn't it? You do get to talk to some interesting people and learn a lot about the culture, area, and people.

One grandfather did not want to serve in the Swiss army so he hopped a ship at age 16 for America. ( 1800's) Arrived in Galveston, Texas. The other grandfather came from Germany, also very young ... he served in the Civil War and was taken as a prisoner of war during the battle of New Orleans. From those two men came a long line of doctors, nurses, teachers, professors, firefighters, and southern farmers as well as enlisted men and women. Little did they know or coud have dreamed when they saw their home countries for the last time what a legacy they would create in a new land.

I know jack about my family history. My mom's parents died when she was young, I have no idea what their names were or what they died from. I know I'm 1/2 Mexican, but I don't know what the other half is.

My family is strange.
