In China, the US policy was:

a - to occupy part of the country.
b - to force the chinese to pay more than its fair share for the cost of putting down the Boxer Rebellion.
c - to insist on British control of much of China.
d - a mix of insistence on equal trade, while accepting some foreign influence over the chinese government and economy.

The answer is D. The U.S. adopted an open door policy in the early 1900s which led to free trade for all nations occupying China at the time.
