It's not odd at all. I was 20 before my parents would allow me to buy my first car. I lived with them while I went to college so I kind of had to abide by their rules in order to keep the peace. My father would have let me get one in a hot second but my mom was all about the high insurance rates and everything. Oh well.

It's not unusual. Cars are expensive.
I didn't own my first used car until I was 30. Paid with my own money saved up from working.

if its your parents, its not that uncommon, especially if youre in high school or college. i bought my first car myself when i was a few months over 19, but thats how long it took to save up the money.
