Where the heck are these cars made, are they even available in the US, and how the heck are they still afloat if they are so little-known?

European car company, formerly a division of FIAT. The factory is in Spain, the company is 100% owned by Volkswagen. Not imported here.

A Seat is a European economy car built in Spain. They are not and have never been available in the US. They are typical of the smaller and extreemly basic car types found in Europe.

Seats are available in Mexico and I see them pretty often in Texas. They are perfectly good, crashworthy, and modern cars.

a SEAT is a vehicle in the volkswagen family. VW owns audi, skoda, and seat. you will never be able to buy one here as they would never meet crash standards or emissions laws. they are big in eastern europe.
