I'm part of a trivia club at school. I'm a science, movies, literature+wordplay, gen. knowl. guy, and my friend is a popcul., music, gen. knowl. guy.

We've been attending practices/meetings all year. Now that try-outs for the Team are coming up, and other...not so committed ppl are trying out for the team, we've discovered a huge gap in our knowledge pool. We forgot history and geo! After much studying, we've learned all the capitals and largest rivers of the continents. Unfortunately, that's it. To make things worse, history and geo are showing up a lot in formal games.

There are two history/geography buff's trying out, and whether I'm being biased or not, I don't like them very much. They seem full of themselves. Between the two of them, they seem to know every obscure historical and geographical fact related to humanity.

I need a plan or method of learning at least a portion of what they know. I've been working towards this all year, and I can't lose. Help! Any ideas?

Even though it is really quite boring to study history for someone who doesn't love the subject because of all the readings and memorizations, I guess it is still necessary to study it because of course we need to learn and fully understand the things that happened in the past because they have a connection with what is happening today. In a way, they still affect the people. If studying history and geography is a prerequisite for every student, a student who is more interested in the sciences (physics, chemistry...) doesn't have any choice but to study it. After all, you wouldn't know there will come a time that it will benefit you. They say history repeats itself. And if the problems that happened in the past occurred again, at least the people will already have an idea on how to solve it.

Bad news Bubba. If you want to compete effectively, you'll need to do it as a team. Most times not all team members like each other. That's the way of the world. To have a good chance of winning, you'll have to accept 1 of these 2 guys.

Remember, they're not going to live with you, they're just going to help you win.
