Seriously. Quit being a bum and go look it up yourself already.

Your sentence is not correct because (1) using the "It is" construction for any sentence is terrible (try to rephrase it without using "It is" at the beginning); and (2) you're using 'momentous' in an incorrect part of speech.

"Deciding to drop the atom bomb was a momentous event."
Momentous is an adjective that usually directly precedes its noun. You're trying to force it into a construction that doesn't work.

A word such as 'imperative' is not used in this way: "Deciding to drop the bomb was an imperative event." "The birth of my first child was an imperative event." "Imperative ______" anything makes no sense.

Imperative occasion, imperative scissors, imperative idea. No.

Momentous occasion, momentous scissors, momentous idea. Yes. (NOTE THAT THE WORD DIRECTLY PRECEDES ITS NOUN. THAT'S NOT HAPPENING IN YOUR SENTENCE.)

Momentous In A Sentence

The decision to drop the atom bomb was a momentous decision in the history of man.

Another meaning of the word works out to be "very big"

And although you might have got the meaning of the word in the sentence , the grammar of using the word can be tricky.

Momentous would be of utmost importance, but I believe you probably would have been better served to have used the word "imperative" instead.
