I think they're very much alike, but I have to go with KJ.

Payton had better teams around him in Seattle than KJ did in Phoenix. Even the finals team wasn't all that great outside of Barkley and KJ. Certainly Dan Marleje was never that good again in his career. I think it is still probably Payton, but there's a case for KJ. I think he was an overacheiver and Payton really an underacheiver.

Gary Payton hands down especially in his prime. He had the ability to light up and shut you down on any given night.

KJ had a nice game but he could not defend as well as Payton could on a regular basis.

Wow! this may well be a competent question. in my opinion, I enjoyed GP with the aid of fact of his swagger and protection. He might placed a guy ON LOCK and that became that. you acquire no longer something. yet KJ had some intense pastime. became between the quickest factors I surely have ever seen endline-to-endline. That being pronounced, GP had 8 consecutive all protecting communities, a ton of all nba 1st communities, in comparison to a handfull of 2d team and third team awards for KJ. i'm going to flow with the GLOVE.

One of my favorite matchups of all time was K.J. and John Stockton. Those two would go at each other like cats and dogs.

I think K.J. was better overall, but Payton was better for much longer.

I don't like Payton at all (I basically don't like anyone on the heat)
