Exhaust pipe has two measurement: the ID, or inside diameter, and OD, or outside diameter. When connecting two pieces of pipe, the rear piece is usually flared so that it's ID is the same diameter as the OD of the forward pipe.

refers to Inside Diameter and Outside Diameter of the pipes used. the inside diameter of the end of one piece has to match the outside diameter of the next connecting piece to make sure it all fits together snug so as to avoid gaps or too loose/tight fitting pieces.

the difference between inner and outer diameters is about 1/4 inch ....the wall of the pipe is 1/8 inch so since you have two wall it is mutiplied by two...hope this helps...
