NE-VER! I have a 10 year old son. And while he is just now understanding that girls can actually be nice and sweet, I don't plan to allow him to date until he is much older, 16ish. A 10 year old is a CHILD! Let them have crushes, but as far as a date, N...O, spells no. Friends, yes. More than that, no. No and no, and no no no. Let them be children! They have the rest of their life to date and all the rest that the grown up world has to offer. Let them be innocent for as long as possible!

If she wants him to come over and play and she's like 10, or 11 sure, but if she's twelve be careful only let him come with you on like family outings, don't let them do stuff alone, you'd be surprised what a 12 year old is capable of. then like 13 to about 15 only public places and he never comes over except for like dinner or to study in a public part of the house( This is also all right for the rest of her life at your house). After you have drilled the "talk" into her brain about a million times to the point where she is totally in the know about all the stuff that could screw her up for the rest of her life, let her go out on real dates, but make sure you know where she is going, what she's doing and who's she is with and make sure she's back at a decent hour.
Good Luck, don't be to hard on the kid

I sure wouldn't! She's too young and has a lot of growing up to do before she enters the world of dating. Maybe talking on the phone with a time limit but not going out on a date. Maybe a family outing with total supervision but I still think 10 is way to young. She'll be of age soon enough. Why rush it?

I remember back when I was that age, I had a boyfriend. He was my neighbor, and we "dated"... it's really not dating, more of a game of pretend for a tween. Just explain to her your boundries... only holding hands... etc. If they want to go out together, take them to the movies, but stay with them, or go to the skating rink. It will pretty much be just more hanging out than anything, but you should be there if you feel that they will cross boundries. Eventually they'll grow over eachother, or into best friends. Plus, it is a good story to tell their friends. I think it is very harmless. It is just 2 kids trying to see what it will be like years from now when they are grown up more.

No dating- How about group activities ,sports, drama club, other interests your daughter has. I wouldn't call it over protective , but wanting more for the child, in terms of there goals. Time for dating in high school or college, now is the time for fun.

NO! I just saw a question from a 16 year old girl who had been dating a guy for 4 years (since she was 12) and now she's pregnant.
Kids are growing up a bit too fast. I didn't even like boys at that age.

I'm only 19 so I don't have any kids yet, but if I did have a 10 or and 11 year old I'd tell her not to date until after college. That's what my mom said to me, but I ended up dating my boyfriend in my junior year of high school and she let me. So I'm afraid that my daughter will do the same thing.

Nooo.. she is way to young to date.. My father was very strict and I wasnt allowed to date until I turned 17.. Wait until she is 15 or 16 but right now she is just way too young.. Its ok if she likes a boy, what you might do is mabe have a play date.. where you take them to mcdonalds together to eat lunch and play.. but always keep a eye on them.. kids now a days grow up much faster then they did when i was a kid..

It is not appropriate for children that young to date. Not even group dating. Group dates 13-14 yrs old, One on One dates 15-16 yrs old and up.
