Most schools have an online database to help you access information for projects and reports, something like infotrac. Google it, if your school dosen't offer it. Also, cross-reference. Your author had to do the same footwork as you guys, check the appendix or reference section of your textbook to see where the authors got their info. Maybe you can find some helpful books and websites that may, in turn, lead you to other books or sites that may be helpful to you. You'd be surprised, when you start researching, it seems to adopt a snowball effect. That's how I used to find my sources. My old sociology book was by John Macionis, published by Prenhall. The address is: http://wps.prenhall.com/hss_macionis_society_8.
The site has scored quizzes, practice tests, and various links to information centers with articles on everything "sociology" related, including the criteria you're searching for. Hope this helps. Good luck!

www.msnbc.com
There is a real good article there right now about a woman that was teaching at the University that is run by the Southern Baptists. She started teaching there in 2004 and was finally let go... they say that a woman shouldn't hold a position of authority over a man. That would be great.

Any news site...CNN FOX etc etc. You can search on the site for sociology or culture and should be able to find something very up to date.
