I just heard it on the news. I can't believe that the parents are complaining that it's not fair and they sentenced the wrong people.... 9/10 were found convicted for beating the women..I just don't get how if it was 3 black girls and 10 white women, these same parents would be saying it was a hate crime? I feel my race is veeerryy confused... any opinions??

Mia, sadly my race is confused :( I mean if it was 3 black women getting beat up then they'd ask for the death penalty...now you switch the color and they say it's not fair... I do not understand. Oh and it was just on CNN. I'll post the article soon if I can find it

I agree that a crime is a crime. But now, everyone wants to bring color into this. Ugh, I hate these sorts of things. When will people learn???

Violence is always a horrible act and the guilty parties should be severely penalized. Race has nothing to do with it because people are individuals who have the ability to choose to do good or to do evil. Obviously, in this case 10 people chose to do incredible evil, and they deserve the punishment that their behaviours merit. Everyone should be held responsible for their deeds without considering race, sex, class, or any other external factor.
It would be great if everyone could truly be judged, as Martin Luther King, Jr. so eloquently said, "by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin"

I think if you do anything to another race that is motivated by hatred of that race, that's a hate crime. It might interest you to know that a poll was done a few months back on MSNBC that asked whether or not non-white on white should be a hate crime, roughly 30% said "No."
That said if the girls were beat up because of another reason, I
don't think it should be a hate crime. All people, regardless of race, should have to have some legitimate proof why such a thing was a hate crime, not simply that the act was committed to another race.

Wrong is wrong and a crime is a crime regardless of color. Anyone beating up anyone is wrong and a crime. A lot of times parents are last to see fault in their kids. I bet those 10 girls have been showing signs of being a bully long before this crime. My heart goes out to the girls that got beat up.

It doesn't matter what the skin color is. A crime is a crime. They should get what they deserved. If everyone can just stop looking at skin color the world would be a better place to live in. I am sick as he** of hearing white people this, black people that, or asian, even mexicans or latinos. Everybody need to GROW UP!

Its not your race thats confused; everyone is hypersensitive these days,not just one particular race. Its so out of control, that it sickens me. Everyone has a Freakin' chip on thier shoulder.

How many White mobs did you know in the past that hunted and killed Black people. MANY a lot.
RACISM does exist, and 10 Black women/girls beating up 3 Whites is just another racial motivated attack. It not Black mobs that march on states and yell "Ni99ers go back to Africa", and shoot and set fires on Black churches and houses.

Well, I think it would be wrong for 10 of anyone to beat up 3 of anyone else whether it be b"s and w's, christians and muslims. gays and straights, or blondes and redheads
