I now cannot get any sound out of my speakers. I can hear the quiet white noise when I turn up the speakers, but no music, dvd's nothing. Doesn't a computer come with sound enable as long as you have speakers? Did i wipe out something when I did recovery?

You did, indeed, wipe something out - the audio drivers. You will need to identify your sound card and go to the manufacturers web site and download the latest drivers for that card.

Possible Solutions..

1. For Windows XP Only..
Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices
Under the "Volume" tab, under "Device Volume", click "Advanced" and see if anything (specifically the Master Volume and Wave) is low, or if Mute is checked off.

2. If your speakers didn't come with your computer, you may need to install the necessary drivers. Try to find the CD that came with them, or check online on the manufacturer's website and see if they have any for download.

Sorry, if that doesn't work, I don't know what the problem is.

Sometimes the sound card just goes nutty. Try checking the connection or changing which plug the speakers are in, since for some reason some soundboards change where the sound is sent!

This is an easy fix but doing a backup, reformat and reinstall is a good idea once a year.

If you have some software that came with your computer, see if there is a disc that is a device driver.... will say something on it that will tell you that it is for sounds.... if you have it.. just re-install..... and if not, have you tried re-booting or going into your programs.. and looking for a sounds device driver.

sometimes when you do a system recovery it will start you computer out to be just what it was when you bought it, and you either have to wait till it goes through all the things to re-install, or you have to re-install from discs.

open the start menu,scroll up to "my Computer"Right Click One Time.Scroll down to properties.left click one time.at the top left click on "Hardware"then left click on the second button"Device Manager" here you will find all of the hardware connected to your computer.a yellow mark next to an item means that the driver is missing.the best thing to do is connect to windows update,let them install the ActiveX,and scan your computer for updates.they usually do install missing drivers for audio,usb,modems,ect.if this doesnt work you will need to install them manually,from the disc,or go to the manufacterers website and download the software and drivers

In the package of stuff you got with your computer there should be a CD that is titled "Drivers".

If you put that in your CD drive and then go to my computer and review what is on the drive, you should be able to find the "Audio Drivers" that you will need to install to be able to hear your music, etc.

Go to start, right click My Computer, Properties, click hardware,
Device Manager, click on Sound, and look for any red x's.

if you see a red x, click onit and choose enable.

You will have to reinstall the drivers for your sound card. Check system properties >hardware>device manager and find your sound card and check out if you can download drivers for it from manufacturer

you need to reinstall the Audio card drivers. The PC Manufacturer's website should have these drivers available. Additionally, they should be located on the CD you reinstalled from depending again, on the manufacturer.

Oh NO! You should have plugged out the cables before doing that. Plug out the cables and do it again. Then put them back in. It will work.
