He was caught using marijuana. Does this put him in the same category as steroid users?

If off the field stupidity were criteria for the HOF, hundreds of players in all sports wouldn't be there.

Where do you draw the line? Performance enhancers? Narcotics? How about guys that have been convicted of assault? Drunk driving? How about cheating on your wife?

Are you telling me that Kobe Bryant isn't going to the HOF in the NBA?

But I digress. The point is, HOF is not a moral compass. It's a lithmus test to see how your PLAYING career panned out.

And Irvin was a helluva player. So he should be in the HOF

Voters for the NFL Hall of Fame are told to only consider the contributions that the player made on the field, and not to judge him by his activities off the field. That being said, Irvin was one of the best receivers ever, and should be in the Hall of Fame.

Me personally - I dont think druggies like Irvin and Lawrence Taylor belong in the Hall Of Fame - it sets a bad example for kids to see the lives these two led, and that they are rewarded with the highest career award in the NFL.

Steroids is different - those "cheaters" need to be kicked out of the league. Sorry Merriman, bye bye.

No. His number are not hall of fame caliber. He just happened to be on a great team. Of course ESPN has been pushing Canton for the past couple of years. I don't think the marijuana thing is much of an issue. Of course in baseball you might remember that Fergie Jenkins was held back for years because of his marijuana use. Things have changed a lot since then. Point is, Irvin is not a hall of famer marijuana or not.

have self belief me, as a Giants fan, i do not want to work out him contained in the corridor of recognition in any respect. That being stated, if Aikman is in and Emmitt Smith is a lock, i imagine Michael Irvin will ultimately locate his way into the corridor of recognition. interior an same way that Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, and Lynn Swann (who as a WR did no longer have eye-popping numbers both) all were given contained in the corridor of recognition, i trust Irvin will be in as well. depending on Lawrence Taylor being contained in the corridor of recognition, he wasn't an angel off the container yet he redefined the linebacker position and is a former league MVP, some thing that won't be able to be stated about Irvin. the base line is that Irvin will ultimately get in, no count number what percentage extra stupid issues he does, lol.

I want to believe Irvin has changed his ways.. even tho he had that recent episode within the past 2 yrs.. I think he deserves to be in the hall of fame because the cowboys won super bowls and he was their number one receiver.. I mean does TO deserve to be in the hall? His numbers do.. but just depends how you view em as a person.. Like I said Irvin is a changed man.. from what I want to believe..

If not for the neck problem, he may have been the other Jerry Rice. He was in great shape. Yes he was caught with cocaine, but as said already, the voters are told only onfield contributions should count.

Yes, he belongs.

Irvin was a solid possesion reciever on a very good team. His numbers don't measure up to the other greats of his era. He kind of reminds me of Keyshawn Johnson, good reciever, not great, who needs to play on a great team to shine. On the other hand, John Stallworth is in the HOF. Kinda makes you think?
