I did this very thing when I was 14 years old!!! Here's how I did it, and I still have it to this day! I am now 35, so it's 21 years later, and I still have that same piercing I did at home...
Here's how I did it....
First I determined exactly where I wanted it, then I used an alcohol swab and cleaned the area....then I made a small dot with a pen. I found a medium sized safety pin....cleaned that with alcohol too....then iced my ear for a good 20 minutes, I am not a big fan of pain, so icing was very important....I then pushed the safety pin through, making sure it is very straight when I did so.....when it came thru the other end, I secured the safety pin and left it in for at least 3 months.
By the way, myself and Yahoo! take NO responsibility for the content of this email. Everyone is subject to different results. Do what I did at YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never do any type of body piercings at home. All of the risks of ANY type of piercing can be even worst if you "just do it at home." One of the girls in my school pierced her belly button w/ a clothespin and eww, it was so gross. Everybody was wondering why she did it! It is just stupid to risk yourself even more just because you didn't want to pay the extra 10/20 bucks that could make life way easier. Go to a salon, trust me, its worth it. And these days, 10/20 bucks is not alot. But remember, piercing guns are not the way to go. The gun puts to much pressure on your skin, and it can damage your ear tissue. I had my cartilage pierced w/ a gun and there is little bump there now, even two years later.
Hope this answer was very thought- provoking!

DO NOT PIERCE YOUR EARS AT HOME!!!! bad idea. There are many places in the mall that do it for cheap some places in you buy the earrings they pierce your ears for free you just have to look around. (try Claire's) Hope this helps :)

well first u get gloves, 2 clean towels, a big enough needle the or the size u want, not rubbling alcohal, a lighter, and a few q-tips,
now put the gloves on, clean the needle with the rubbing alcohal, and the area of ur ear u want with a q-tip and rubbing alcohal, now glab the needle and the lighter, and use the lighter to get the majority of the needle hot, wait for it to cool( its just another way of cleaning the needle) take a deep breathe and push the needle through ur ear, and make sure everything u use is on one of the towles, some times it will bleed a little and thats what the other towle is for

it's well worth getting it done. You're risking getting an infection by doing it yourself. Also, it might not come out even. It is not that expensive.
