Why can't anyone ever admit that they did something wrong or said something hurtful. Why do people seem to be stubborn and stuck up or full of themselves?

Because there's a sense of shame attatched to telling someone that you were in the wrong. When you tell a person that you did something wrong, you're accepting that you are at fault - that it really is your fault that the person got hurt, and people don't tend to like admitting that someone was wrongfully hurt because of their actions. We don't like being guilty.
