You either have a CD stuck in it, the power connector to the CD drive is loose or unplugged, or the drive is no longer working. Bend a paper clip and push it into the pinhole on the faceplate to see if it opens.
Aint got anything to do with drivers either! As long as the unit is powering up, the eject button should work!

Does this happen even after you reboot the PC? If yes, then check if the light comes on the drive when you boot up the PC. If not the drive's done, need's to be replaced, if the light comes on, then try reinstalling the drivers.

You can reinstall the drivers, by going into the control panel, then system and then the hardware tab, then device manager. Under there look for the CD drive, expand that option, click uninstall. Reboot and see if windows finds the drive, and let it reinstall the driver. Make sure you have any CD specific driver installation cd's if they came with the PC, else windows should be able to find the driver and install.

See if that helps.

Watch the CD Drive when you boot up, sometime during the process the little light should go on, if not then the drive doesn't have power and that is your problem. If it lights and still doesn't open, then try the little pin hole thing. If it still doesn't open there mst be something jammed in it or the eject mechanism is broken.

Turn you computer off and switch it on again and push the eject button on the drive before windows starts up, this usually opens the drive.

If you are savvy with repairs, listen to see if anything is going on when you try to eject. If nothing, then your drive may either have died, or simply lost its power supply lead. Replacing a drive like that is not difficult, but it is a bit technical in nature and you do have to use some care. If you have doubts, take it to your local computer repair shop and have them give you an estimate. Good luck.

Press the "eject" button on the front on the drive. If that doesn't work then use the emergency eject - you'll need a pin for that.

That is very frustrating, isn't it. I have had similar problems. If the software buttons don't work, I wouldn't bother with the pinhole ideas. That is only a very temporary fix. Pull it out, and get a new one. If you want to go to "worst buy", that is 'best buy', it's your money. I go to PriceWatch.com and find what I need from there.
