We had 3 pigs and made a shelter for them out of tin roofing material and plywood for the sides. They do need shelter in winter and from the sun or they get burned. You can use hay on the outside of the shelter (put it on the windy side) to keep the wind down, also put down hay inside for them.

Yeah they are right.... hogs will sunburn really bad and if you are showing it its gonna look bad if it is sunburned..... also hogs cant sweat so you want them to have some shade or a cool spot... You could put some plywood up on one side of the pen (whichever side the wind comes from normally)

My cousin has a hog farm in western Michigan, and they use small quonset huts for their free-range hogs. The hogs (and babies) keep warm by huddling together. One end remains open year-round (they are enclosed on 3 sides).

I built a full shed out of barn plank but 1' by 8'' or 6'' will work real well. If price is a factor, you can use just about anything but Styrofoam. one thing for sure though....you'll not only see your hogs use their new home but they will love you for it. oink oink :)
