I don't think he fell in love with her. I think he just felt sorry for her, liked her a little, and got caught up playing the White Knight role. He barely knew her.

Tommy's girlfriend Sue was the one who felt sorry for Carrie and asked him to take Carrie to the prom. He realized after being with her that she wasn't what everyone thought. I don't think he really "fell" for her though.

Tommy's girlfriend felt bad so she told Tommy to ask Carrie to the dance...Tommy felt bad about teasing Carrie when she said she liked his poem in class and for being weird, he did kiss her, but it was just because he was having a good time at the dance with her, and he wanted her to have a better time and enjoy it...it was one of those innocent kisses.

Tommy(William Katt)was in on the joke at first, but he later felt badly and defended Carrie. But,by then it was too late.I always wondered why John Travolta was on that film,he was doing hit movies at the time.

Well, if you remember in the beginning of the movie when Carrie commented on Tommy's poem, he laughed it off but then gave her a look like he really appreciated her comment. I think he found her to be interesting, and when he saw her all dolled up he started liking her.

i think that you would have to say if you are thinking of the novel by Stephen King, the 1st movie with John Travolta or the made for TV movie.
in the book i think that he feels sorry for her.
in the first movie, i think that he is being nice to her.
in the made for TV movie, i think that he just not too sure what he felt for her.
i really did prefer the novel for the level of detail.

It was him feeling sorry for her - his girlfriend wanted him to help Carrie.
He wasn't a bad guy - but he really did love his girlfriend.
I do love Stephen King stories!
