Are they're trying to loosen up the cigarettes that are stuck together? But I've never seen two cigarettes stuck (even slightly) together if the pack is left untapped.

People tap the cigarette pack on their palms because they think it packs the tobacco in the cigarettes tighter. At least thats why I did it. It helped!

"packing" it forces the tobacco to be packed closer together inside the cigarette. Keep the cherry from falling off.

Theoretically this is to compact the tobacco to make it smoke slower. I have a filter and tube machine and if I pack them tight they do burn slower but I would think the factory does a good enough job as is.

they think that the are compressing the tabaco and that it will lead to a more intense smoking experince.
