Same reason you did not...Duh...They all had puppy's in their cars too. Some people i swear, who doesn't drive around without their puppy? What are you supposed to do? Leave him at home?

It depends on how long the line is. If there are more than one or two cars in the drive-through, I go inside. The counter is almost always faster during the lunch hour. However, if there is a very short or nonexistent line at the drive through, I would go there because the restaurants give priority to drive-through customers. If two customers order the same thing at the same time and there is only one ready, the one at the drive through will always get it first.

When I'm feeling lazy (obvious by the fact that I'm there and not at home cooking), why would I want to go in?
I did have one experience where I was waiting at the thing to order for a full five or more minutes. I got pissed. Pulled into a parking spot, walked in, ordered, got my order, got back out to my car, and the car behind me was STILL at the thing.
So yeah. Sometimes, it's just faster.

Think about this for a second:
Most fast food places have on kitchen. If you go inside and order, it will put your order in que for whereever it is in the process. So can going inside make it fater for you? It really depends. If you are getting a sandwhich or fries or whatever might have to be made by someone in the back, then you will wait jsut as long if not longer. Most fast food places place an emphasis on the drive thru moving faster. So they are more likely to send the drive thru items up quicker and even skip counter orders if drive thru is backed up. That being the case, going inside could be slower. If you go to the inside and are just getting a pop or drink or something premade, like a fruit and walnut salad at mcdonald's or some otis spunkymeir cookies at burger king, certainly go inside, will be faster.
Only thing is, if you go inside, and while the odds of the food being made right are the same, you can see them make your stuff or whatever. And then you can stare evil holes in the backs of the counter person and manager who is busting his tail to get drive thru moving. Then you can go inside and give the manager crap, while it is busy, that the service is slow there. It certainly makes the service faster to complain about it, especially when you pull one more person away from the process of getting things moving faster just so you can air your two cents. Quit being lazy, go inside, get your own drink/napkins, etc., and you will be almost certain to get your food right too.

Depending on the F.F. Restaurant, the drive thru gets priority over walk-ins. I have seen this happen a many of times at White Castle. You'll find that more cars will drive off with their order than people walking out with theirs.

Maybe instead of getting fast food go home and make a can of soup and a sandwich. That's really quick or get a couple lean cuisine meals to have when you're too tired to cook.

Going through the drive through may take a while ; but it may be the same inside
Maybe next time have a plan B for a fast-food restaurant

I rarely go to FF restaurants, but when I do, it's usually with a friend and we eat inside.
Some use the drive through for the same reason as you, or similar, or perhaps just find it more convenient for whatever reason.

I go in, because I always have other people wanting stuff too and it's too confusing giving different orders to the people on drive-thru. Also, they always miss things out at our local KFC and it's easier to check that it's all in there if you go inside.

If there is parking, I prefer to sit inside. I will choose the drive-through when the inside line is long or inside when the drive-through line is long. If I'm driving to or from work I will use the drive-through. If I have time to kill I will try to sit inside.
You see, it's not really a simple answer. Fast food dining is very complex.
