actually these came from latin words 'bachilles en scientia' and 'bachilles en artes'.
translated in english they are 'bachelor of science' and 'bachelor of arts' respectively.

they differ from the kinds of courses each category offers and they are prefix to the course a student is taking like : BSCH - bachelor of science in chemistry,

BS mostly offer courses in 'science', math, engineering. since the latin word 'scientia' means knowledge
while BA are 'art' courses, languages, literature etc. since the latin word 'artes' means 'to inspire'.

but take note that 'arts and sciences' are closely related.
for example: BSAR - bachelor of science in architecture, where it is categorized as BS but in fact mostly deal with arts. 'architecture is the mother of all arts'.

do not be confused when you hear words like 'AB English', this is that same BA just reveresed in order to sound better.

as you can see, the two categories are simply the division of youe brain.
the left and right portion, where in the left side of your brain is the analytical side (scientia) while the right side is the artistic side (artes).

in choosing your course, your could reflect on if you either right brain dominant or are you lefty.
are you analytic or artistic?

have fun studying !

I have been at WGU for only 6 months, and it is honestly the best choice I could have made. I have a lot of schooling behind me with attending the University of Utah, but now with small children I cannot make it to campus to attend classes. I love that it does go at your own pace. There was a class I was able to complete in 2 weeks because I had prior experience with other classes. I would highly recommend speaking with a counselor. You typically meet with a mentor once a week via phone to see how you are doing in your classes, which is so uplifting because they genuinely care. I don't think that would happen at a major Univ. unless you sought it out. From what I have heard I do not think finding a job would be difficult in a program like this seeing that you have to do student teaching as well. Hope that help :)
