Would the sky be different without the atmosphere?

Without the atmosphere, life, if it existed, would be very different. The atmosphere of a planet holds gases in and allows weather to generate. Without an atmosphere Earth would have no wind, no weather, and a very low temperature. It would feel very much like the Moon and would be many degrees below zero with major temperature changes and no protection from harmful radiation and electromagnetic waves from the Sun. Views of the sky would look similar to the photos that astronauts on lunar missions took, black or, during certain periods of time, black with stars. See "sources" for links. Great question!

During the day, the sky would be black with a blindingly bright sun hanging in it.

During the night, it would be black with stars.

(You wouldn't see the stars during the day because sun would light the ground up so brightly that your eyes wouldn't be sensitive enough to see the stars).

This is what the astronauts who landed on the moon found. The moon is a (mini) planet without an atmosphere.
